In order for a couple to have a Civil wedding Ceremony in Mauritius our guests need to be resident 24 hours before the wedding is to be performed. However, we advise brides and grooms to arrive at least 3 days before the wedding date in order to complete the necessary legal formalities in Port Louis.
To proceed with all the legal formalities that normally take half a day, one of our wedding coordinators along with a private driver will accompany our guests in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius.
On arrival in Port-Louis, the first thing to do is to visit the Mauritius Civil Status Office which will ensure you have all your original basic documents with you to collect the non-residence certificate. Our guests must then swear an affidavit before a judge of chambers in Port Louis. Finally, the couple will have to stop at the civil status office of their hotel locality to do the publication of Banns and to discuss the wedding time with the civil status officer.
The Civil wedding may then be celebrated one day after the publication of the marriage banns. A Mauritius wedding can be held any working day, Monday to Friday, excluding week-ends and Public Holidays.
Matrimonial systems
Below are the three existing matrimonial systems in Mauritius:
The legal system of community goods;
The legal system of separations of property;
A marriage settlement embodied in a notarial deed in accordance with the common wish of the future spouses.
IMPORTANT: IF THE COUPLE CHOOSES THE THIRD (N°3) MATRIMONIAL SYSTEM ABOVE, THEY WILL HAVE TO BRING WITH THEM A LETTER DRAWN BY THEIR NOTARY.
After the ceremony
Depending on their nationality, our guests will get their wedding certificate within the next 2 days or between 1 and 4 weeks. If you are departing within that time, one of our wedding consultants will forward the certificate to you. If clients wish to have a second or third copy they must pay a supplement to buy the stamps.
When booking your wedding with wedding Mauritius, clarify with your wedding coordinator to ensure that your Wedding will be registered in Mauritius and in doing so will be legal back in your home country.
