Documentation
Below is the documentation required for each spouse for a civil wedding in Mauritius. Copies of these documents will have to be sent to your Wedding Coordinator at least 6 weeks prior to the arrival of the couple in Mauritius. The documents are as follows:
Passport copies for the couple:(first 6 pages containing passport number, photo, issue and expiry dates)
Birth certificates for the couple
If divorced: The former marriage certificate and divorce certificate of the couple
Death certificate of deceased spouse for widow/widower
Divorced or widowed women getting married within 10 months of the divorce pronouncement/death of spouse will require a certificate of non-pregnancy issued by a medical practitioner in Mauritius (at own expense)
If the couple has changed their name by deed pole: Proof is required
If couple is under 18 years of age on the date of the marriage: Proof of parents’ consent (notarial act) for the wedding to take place is required
Completed form of “Application to marry for non-citizens”*
If any partner within the couple has been adopted: Adoption papers need to be produced
IMPORTANT
All the above documents (photocopies) duly filled must be received by Wedding Mauritius at the latest 6 weeks before the wedding day.
-All documents should be certified** copies in English or French (any relevant documentation which is in any language other than English or French must be officially translated).
-Original copies of all these documents must ABSOLUTELY be taken to Mauritius and be submitted on affidavit day.
-Marriages are NOT celebrated on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
-Wedding day must be fixed when sending all relative documents and must be confirmed by the registrar office and the hotel.
-Physical presence of both parties is required on the island 72 hours before the wedding as the banns have to be read and the affidavit has to be signed by both parties at the Registrar’s office. -The Civil Status Act provides that marriage of non-citizens and non-residents may be celebrated on the day following the publishing of banns.
NOTE
*When confirming your wedding booking with wedding Mauritius, you will receive an application to marry which must be completed, signed by both bride and groom and forwarded to your wedding coordinator.
**Certified Documents: These can be provided by your solicitor, who is legally granted to complete this process. The solicitor will always require the original document which will then be photocopied, stamped and endorsed that it is a true copy of an original document.
